Someone is impersonating me on Facebook!?

How do you make a report when someone is impersonating you on Facebook?

  • Someone set up an account using the same name as my friend, but using my friend's photo. How can my friend stop this person from using his photos and impersonating him?

  • Answer:

Go to the fake account, scroll down the profile page until you see: Select report and then do this: If you are not ''friends'' with the fake account then the person being impersonated has to do it. That's it.

Faceboook provides the details about how to resolve this at http://www.facebook.com/help/263149623790594/ and this is where I got the information for what  regarding Facebook policies. Imposter accounts are not permitted on Facebook. There are several ways to notify Facebook about this. The first I am providing is if the complainant has a Facebook account, which is basically the same method that Anon User noted. The second, which I am also providing, is if the complainant does not have a Facebook account (which was not provided).  Now you did not mention a possible motive of why someone is impersonating  your friend.  It could be just as a “joke”...not funny. It could be to run a scam against all your friends friends... impersonating him in the homes of getting money. There are scams of individuals sending messages to all of a person's Facebooks friends, indicating wire money, as I lost my wallet while traveling. You would be surprised at the number who do that. It could also be that someone is harassing or stalking your friend,  setting up a fake account one of the tricks of a stalker/harasser. For these reasons, I would consider at a minimum documenting the profile, printing out hard copies of the profile, or taking screen shots (while at the profile, hit the key, Prnt Screen, then go to Word or Paint shop and select paste, which will make give you an electronic version of the site). Make sure you get the full URL, or profile number of the site.  Than you are ready to notify Facebook, which will likely kill the account. You can also take your documentation and and report it to law enforcement.  In most states there are laws against this kind of stuff. If nothing more then a site was created than okay. But if something else is going on that is “more” criminal, at least there is a copy of the site and record with police to follow up on.  By the way, if you notify Facebook before you go to the police, the account may be gone. If this is a serious harassment, law enforcement should be contacted first as they can direct Facebook to preserve the account info. Depending upon how serious law enforcement will track it back to who did it too. Okay, now on to the specifics of dealing with Facebook.. If the person has a Facebook account and wants to report an imposer account. 1. Go to the timeline 2. Click the "Gear, with the down area key"  and then select Report/Block 3. Check the box next to Report this timeline 4. Click the appropriate box, under “This person is s pretending to be someone” (Choices are Me, someone I know, A celebrity, cartoon, etc.) 5. Click Continue... Add a description for why you're reporting the timeline 6. Check the box next to I confirm that this report is correct 7, Click Continue to submit your report If someone created a Facebook timeline pretending to be someone AND you don't have an account, go to  http://www.facebook.com/help/contact/?id=169486816475808  If you try to go to the link while logged into Facebook, it will stop you. It is only for individuals without an account. There are a series of questions to answer, and then you can submit a report to Facebook. One final word....and this is for all social networking sites...at least the good ones.... Go to the help area. They will give you direction on how to report and resolve these things.
