How To Make Money On Football?

Is it possible to make money from a general football (soccer) blog?

  • I made a blog about soccer recently and im wondering if it is viable to  make money out of it.I currently have 1500 pageviews in 2 and half weeks which I am pretty proud of. Any tips and tricks on how to make money from ads  and affiliate programs are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Gary  Smith

It's definitely possible, but not easy. One example that comes to mind is arseblog, which is actually not a general soccer blog, but an Arsenal blog by a devoted fan. Another one is soccernet, which ESPN bought from a UK father and son team. Both sites got successful by establishing authority with excellent content, and running the blogs like businesses.

There is already an abundance of sites on the Internet which provide soccer related info. But I don't think that should stop you from blogging as you can always do good if it appeals to the readers. Keep the blog updated with all the matches as every team in the world has its share of fans. Do your social media advertising wisely to attract more readers. SEO plays a vital role. Probably unbiased opinions help keep readers loyal. Add your style to the writing. Cheers

I'm not sure why I was A2A'd. I'll try my best to give a satisfactory answer. Like Anon says, there are many sites which offer football news and such. You can only make money if your site offers something unique. Putting up adverts for making money, at a budding stage may prove to be a deterrent for new consumers of your site. Keep it filled with unbiased and high quality journalism during the initial few months, until you build viewership. Yes it is, but it will be a lot of hard work. You have to provide high quality, relevant content to a well defined target audience. If you try to cater to everyone, you'll never beat giants like ESPN or The Guardian. Find a niche, for example the best plays in Spanish Liga B. Yes, your market is smaller, but you'll get fans that truly care about what you provide and are more loyal because they can't get that info anywhere else. Once you have good content on your blog, there are several ways to monetize. Note: most of these ideas came from Crush It, by Gary Vaynerchuk. 1. Ads - keep the ads classy though. 2. Ads for your own product. Create a course or something unique (not an ebook, I'm tired of ebooks) that provides value, and sell it on your site. 3. Affiliate programs, where you promote and sell other people's items and get commission for each sale. Find products relevant to your content. 4. Offer to speak at conferences. Once you build good content and are considered an authority, people will want to hear you speak. You can offer to speak for free at first to gain publicity, and then charge. 5. Call sponsors who you see in your content and ask them to sponsor you. In the example of Spanish Segunda B, that could be Gran Canaria or Riviera Maya who sponsor Las Palmas and Mallorca respectively. If they already sponsor someone in that league, and you're the authority on that league, why not sponsor you? There are more ideas here, although not necessarily related to blogging. http://coachrodolfo.wordpress.com/2014/03/03/10-ways-to-make-money-from-soccer/

Yes you can definitely make good money but during some matches as people search most in those days + you have to provide enough content so people love to visit you blog again and again. Make social group storng and keep on updating the blog as you gonna compare with very large competition blogs. There are many blogs like official http://goal.com which is already known and people love to visit it most. So, you have to make sure that your post and blog is user friendly and unique.
