When is the last and final match of ipl 2009?

What are the chances that the last match between RR and MI in IPL 7 was fixed?

  • I mean even Mumbai Players were in form, they could never did that without help the Rajasthan Royals players did. For instance Watson played like he was playing for Mumbai. And Mumbai Indians is a team with maximum big names associated so if don't qualify how investors will show interest in putting money in IPL's next season. And after that I am very sure that every coming match will go to last ball and there is good chance of Mumbai Playing final against Punjab. What are the chances that a match goes to last ball when it depends on net run rate? And if you look at the commerce as this IPL being low in viewership because of election there was something needed to improve TRP.

  • Answer:

While I don't think that IPL is completely clean, a match like this can not be fixed. You can pay a person to bowl bad, or bat worse, you can't pay a person to bat the way Mumbai Indians did today! No one can assure that a six can be hit even on a full toss, so no, isolated cases of spot fixing aside, the final overs of the match were beyond the control of people other than the ones on the field! Yes it's surprising how events took place, but that's what we watch sports for!

Definitely TRP has improved. The viewership will be higher with Mumbai entering the playoffs. Mumbai Indians is indeed the team on which maximum investments are riding. However let us look objectively at what it takes to fix the match. Firstly, it is not a big deal that the match depending on net run rate went into the last ball. Effectively 20 or 14.3 was "the last over" in today's context. With 2 competitive sides we have seen such high scoring matches going to the last over on many occasions. What about the absence of any dropped catches? Faulkner, who most people are pointing fingers at, took the catch of Simmons and scored 23 runs of 12 balls. We saw some excellent batting by the Mumbai Indians and they were also fortunate enough to have plenty of outside edges going their way. However, the only possibility by which fixing could have happened is by "They" buying Watson, the captain of the opposition, right from the beginning and Watson in one of his conversations with Faulkner (in the middle of the 10th over) telling Faulkner about the plan and they colluding. 14.3-Rayudu hits the ball to cover to Watson with 2 required of the ball and Watson was responsible for the overthrow wasn't he?The commentator Ravi Shastri said Brad Hodge but it was Watson. Why did he have to throw it? At that point most people would have thought the match was in the bag with just a single being taken. The RR dugout was celebrating. Why did Watson go after the runout? And then the last ball from Faulkner was his worst in the innings. No clue how one can even hope to get Watson and get away with it. After all the fiasco last year, a player of high reputation like Watson would know there is everything to lose if caught. There is no way he is signing up for that! I think this is just one of those legendary matches. Something along the lines of India vs Pakistan and India vs Pakistan  in the 2007 T20 WC where India won from seemingly impossible situations.

Just imagine someone tell Tare."We are in.The match is fixed. You just have to go and hit a six off the last ball." I hope you got your answer. It is interesting how such thoughts don't come up when the last over of a match is handed to a certain David Hussey by a certain Mr. M S Dhoni when he has 3 overs left from actual bowlers.

Cant you just enjoy the game? Please dont kill the spirit of the game by bringing up thoughts like these! Coming to your question: I highly doubt the match was fixed. If RR fixed it, still Mumbai needed to hit those 190 runs in 14.3 overs, which even if the bowling was purposely wayward, would have been a difficult task.

Let's see. First of all it is obvious that mumbai couldn't have fixed the match to bat better(since only one can fix to play worser). Now, my point is that if RR had fixed the match they would have never given such a high score to chase in 14.3 overs. they would have given a score around 130-160, something which mumbai could have chased comfortably. And if individual players, say Faulkner would have fixed the match, why did he bat so good?
