What is the best all-inclusive resort in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic?

  • I'm looking to travel to the Dominican Republic, and the resorts available for affordable packages in Puerto Plata are VH Gran Ventana, Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort, Barcelo Puerto Plata, and Wyndham Viva Tangerine.  First hand knowledge regarding any of these resorts would be greatly appreciated (ie is the food good?  What activities are included?)

    Not sure what the emphasis is of this question - whether it's the 'all-inclusive' or the 'puerto plata', but if you're going to POP, then you should really try and get to Cabarete (1/2hr from airport) which is a delightful cosmopolitan surfy town with a truly beautiful beachfront dining experience at night. If your interest is more in the 'all inclusive' side of DR then Playa Dorada is going to be where you'll get the most choice - and if you do go there, then try and spend a day at Casa Colonial which has a great rooftop pool/jacuzzi/dining area.

I stayed at the Barcelo about 3 years ago and I thought it was great. You better learn some Spanish though. Most of the staff speaks very limited English. It's a really good resort if you are looking for an all inclusive type of experience

Have you priced out the Iberostar Costa Dorada? Iberostar delivers a very consistent product and they rate #2 on the TripAdvisor list of hotels in Puerto Plata.

I stayed at the Barcelo Puerto Plata in March and had an amazing time! Barcelo Puerto Plata is a good mid-sized resort with nice and friendly staff (and fun bartenders!). The food was good as well. Let me know if you need more information. :)
