Is there any FarmVille mobile app?

What's the average ratio between paid traffic (Facebook Ads) and social traffic (Wall posts, App Invites...) for a social game like Farmville?

  • Example #1: 80% Paid / 20% Social Example #2: Every 1 paid user (coming directly from FB Ad) there are 4 coming from Invites/Wall posts from users who have already installed the app.

  • Answer:

The only public data I've seen is from Ravenwood Fair from LOLapps. According to their slides from the Social Gaming Summit East, they get 30% of their installs from ads: http://venturebeat.com/2010/12/01/lolapps-gives-an-inside-look-at-the-success-of-social-game-ravenwood-fair/ Note, however, that a lot of their traffic is driven from cross promotion. Games without cross promotion (which is increasingly rare with all the xpromo providers like applifier) and similar virals would need a higher percentage of paid acquisition to reach the same number of users.

Farmville grew at a time when virality was high, as Zynga exploited (spammed) users via FB communication channels.  At the height of things, and back in the early days, my guess is that for every bought user, Zynga may have been generating 2-3 viral users!  Today anything around 0.3-0.4 of your total userbase is considered good. Interestingly if you read an article from Jens Begemann CEO of Wooga, he talks of a new channel - direct traffic.  Presumably this comes from having a good game that people talk about it. http://www.insidesocialgames.com/2010/11/18/wooga-virality-is-dead-long-live-engagement/
