What roles should you create in a SharePoint 2010 dream team?
-
For an organisation that wants to get maximum value from the capabilities of a SharePoint 2010 platform, what roles should exist for the management, governance, exploitation, adoption etc? Which roles are new or need greater focus when moving from an older platform (eg Sharepoint 2007)

Answer:
This is a part answer only but might assist in particular the governance and management portion of the question, especially once the system is implemented and hits sustaining mode. Because of the nature of SharePoint 2010 as a collaborative platform, there should be a multi-tier support structure in place for business users in order to allow for quality contributions as well as quality sites being built, especially on a large enterprise level where self-serve capabilities are a must in order for the platform to have sustainable growth in both content and adoption. Steering committee Group of executive level sponsor/support Business system administrators Works directly with IT administrators to ensure integrity of the platform Centralizes and prioritizes development requests based on business needs Responsible as UAT and sign off for any upgrades or changes to platform Runs the tactical governance committee and drives roadmap of the platform Super administrators Positioned through various parts of the business to gather business requirements / continual needs of new features Assists in support of administrators in customization of sites, as well as any custom workflows or forms being built Participates in the governance committee and provides feedback from business that helps drive decisions on the overall roadmap and strategy of platform usage Help coach and train site administrators of their area on best practices and guidelines on managing sites Site administrators Focuses on daily operations of their individual sites, including permissio settings and supporting end users Monitors and maintains sites according to best practices Ensures content contributors are submitting quality content that are both relevant and current End users Contributors of individual site content In addition, we also have a tier 1 support team that would support end users if they have problems with uploading documents, editing or accessing SharePoint in general.

I agree with Neil here. It all starts with taxonomy. You need an awesome architect or taxonomist to plan out content types and metadata management. The true power of SharePoint is in its search capabilities which relies on SP taxonomy. Great list Neil. To pull out and expand on the roles from the business side: Executive sponsor Steering group Intranet Manager Business implementation managers (one per division\function to focus on adoption and content) Site owners Content owners and community facilitators Internal Communications (for launch and ongoing awareness) Organisational change manager This list is geared towards a franchise model where the adoption\change elements can't all be driven from a central team but there's a need for co-ordination.
