What is the best way to specify different custom fields for different post types?

WordPress 3.0+ has a nice feature to specify different post types. Is there a way to specify different custom fields for different post types. I am using wordpress as a CMS for a company website. Website has Customers, Partners, Job Posts sections. I can use title and description fields for Title and Details about a particular customer but I also want to have a thumbnail image which I can upload via custom fields. Is there a plugin or other solution for this.
