I have a job offer from Microsoft that I have accepted (MSIT to be precise). It has been about a month since I accepted the offer and I am nearing my start date. In context of the upcoming layoffs, should I decline the offer?

If the layoffs did not occur, I would not have any question about taking the job I have a lot at stake if I get laid off (Greencard, H1B etc) All these rumors on sites like http://minimsft.blogspot.com makes me second-guess my decision (see pic below)

Answer:
No reason not to take the offer that you already accepted. Just a lesson that there is no such thing as "job security"

As a Microsoft employee and a former MSIT employee, I suggest you take the offer. Microsoft restructured the Nokia division. Mostly Redmond and Hyderabad are not heavily impacted. Small numbers. They hired you for your skills. They still need those skills. MSIT is a great place to work. I was in MSIT for 8 years, before moving to consulting. Loved it. Welcome to Microsoft!

You should totally accept the offer. The layoffs were about changing how engineering works - I'm not sure that MSIT was affected at all. Having Microsoft on your resume is a Very Good Thing and you'll learn about managing & securing a network that supports 100,000+ people. Regardless of whether you stay at Microsoft long term or decide to go somewhere else, there's very few places in the world where you'll get that type of exposure & experience.

You can accept the offer without apprehensions. I work at Microsoft, India Development Center and i pretty much know that the lay-off effect will not be seen at the Hyderabad campus. Whatever minimal number of lay-offs that might happen will be due to organizational restructuring. It will in all likelihood, not apply to a new hire.

If you have other offers at hand. Yes Else dont. Well, it still looks good on your resume to show that you were a former employee of microsoft.

No, you should accept the offer. The hiring team has headcount which means it is successful as well as having a job function to fulfill. If you don't take it then someone else will.
