Content Management System (CMS): What are the best open source solutions for managing the marketing content and property listings on a real estate brokerage web site?
-
I'd like to find a flexible, cost-effective CMS for a real estate brokerage. After a few hours of research on the web I found PHP-based OpenRealty (http://www.open-realty.org) that claims to be a leader in the open source real estate listing marketing and management category. OpenRealty features content management, custom template capability using CSS/AJAX (versus canned templates), industry-standard integration with MLS and IDX data feeds, and an active developer support community. All good stuff that I'd say are table stakes for any product in this category. What's been your experience building and maintaining an OpenRealty site? How does it compare to other real estate CMS solutions currently in use? What technical features (APIs, data feed) are "must haves" in this space? Are there other options of the Drupal or Joomla CMS variety that likewise support MLS and IDX integration?

Answer:
dRealty IDX is the module you'd want to use on a Drupal installation. (http://drupal.org/project/drealty) Other than that I'd say the Drupal system is well equipped to service a realty listing site. Cheers, JR

If your criteria are ease of build, ease of use, powerful functionality, and cost, then it's Joomla plus OS Property, hands-down. I looked at many Wordpress and Drupal solutions, and found nothing else even close based on those criteria, as compared to this. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extension/vertical-markets/real-estate/os-property

WordPress! For those using Drupal and still hasitating, I would advise to test it out for yourself. You can do it with the help of any automated convert tools, like cms2cms, this one even offers a free demo migration, so it will cost you nothing to find out
