What's the best way to buy iPod Touches in bulk for field testing?

  • We plan to give away fifty iPod Touches preconfigured with our application to some aplha field testers for a 1-month trial, and perhas a followup trial of 500.  Used, new, warranty, no warranty, as long as it runs iOS 4. We'll wipe them and reinstall the OS.  Any ideas?

    If you are considering new devices I've found that working with an Apple business contact to be quite helpful. Call your local Apple store and ask to speak with someone from their business team. They can help you purchase and deploy large numbers of devices.

No particular ideas about the buying in bulk, but be careful with large numbers of apps. If your app is already in the app store you can go with an approach like this but if it's truly an unreleased, alpha build then you're limited to 100 device UDIDs for your app. Worse, you can only reset the list of 100 once per year, so once you put a device on there you're pretty much stuck with it for a while, and once you hit 100 you can be in a long, uncomfortable wait to get them to clear. That may not directly answer your question but I hope it's at least useful!
