How do I go about volunteering at Planned Parenthood?

I'm confused, since when is Planned Parenthood the ideal place to go for mammograms and breast cancer?

  • No matter how you slice it, shouldn't be directing those funds to a service focused on breast cancer?  Or have I misunderstood what does? (if so, they need to change their name) For the uninitiated, this question is prompted by the recent move by the breast cancer foundation to pull contributions they make to Planned Parenthood. • Answer:

Planned Parenthood doesn't need to change their name; it's a nearly 100-year old organization with a lot of name recognition and support. It was originally founded to provide birth control, but for almost 50 years now but its mission has expanded to improve the quality of reproductive health. Since breast and other cancers (in men and women; they also provide vasectomies and testicular cancer screenings) affect reproductive health, this fits in perfectly with their mission. As far as being a good place for cancer screenings., it charges on a sliding scale based on income. For those who can't afford the ~$150 out of pocket cost for a mammogram, Planned Parenthood is often the ideal place to go.
