  • Answer:

First, you need a good idea of the time you can spare for prep. Second, do you want to prepare yourself or prepare thru classes. How to prepare yourself: Download GMAT prep software. Buy the 3 official guides. Take GMAT Prep test 1. Evaluate it. Mark the question you got wrong or got right for wrong reasons. Understand the reasoning and by now you'd have a good idea of topics you need to prepare. Buy VeritasPrep/Manhattan book to strengthen these topics. Meanwhile, start improving your grammar (the best book to prepare sentence correction is Manhattan's SC). After 3 weeks of preparation, start practicing questions from Official Guides. 40 quant and 50 verbal questions daily. Dig deep into explanation of all questions (even the right ones). Do all questions (twice if you have time). 1 month prior to exam take prep tests from Veritas or Manhattan and take full length tests ie with essays and IR sections. In last 1 month you should be taking prep tests and working on your weak sections. Keep a journal of your mistakes if you can. 3 days prior to exam revisit your journal and go thru grammar rules one last time. This should be enough. How to prepare in classroom setting: Complete all the work material. I suggest you get classes from Manhattan or Veritas. No other prep comes close to these two.  Along with this coursework, do everything I mentioned above! Classes will help you upspeed to concepts and rules that are tested. Your hardwork will matter in any setting you study! Also, studying in classroom setting keeps you motivated.

You should have at least two months before GMAT appointment for preparation. So First book an appointment. Its only after booking the date that you will seriously start preparing. Buy OG and Manhattan SC book (it comes with 6 free mock tests). Give OG's Diagnostic Test. You will get familiar with pattern and type of questions and your strengths/weaknesses. Mine SC was weak so I started with SC (I think this is one topic where you can significantly improve yourself). After doing SC, give a mock from GMAT prep. By this time you will be better able to judge your skills. Then proceed accordingly. and give all Manhattan mock tests. (in mock tests don't skip AWA and IR sections (both are frustrating and hence you get irritated), you will not be able to simulate the actual test conditions if you skip this two). I can't help you for second part. Sorry. Thanks for A2A.
