How is the reputation of the EE program at UPenn among American employers?

  • Hi everyone, I'm from China. I was recently admitted to the EE master program at Upenn. Upenn has long been my dream school so I am so excited for this result. However, I heard from some Chinese forums at the same time that, compared to other prestigious universities, it's not easy for master students from this program to find a job in America after graduation. Can you guys tell me how exactly are the reputation and competence of this program in American industry? Also I would like to know which one that employers in America value better? The general ranking of the school or the specialty ranking?(I know self-competence is most important, but let's despite of the factor in this discussion) I also have the intention of transferring to MCIT or CIS program after the first year of study, is that feasible?

    I can't say for engineering, but in the US the University of Pennsylvania has an excellent reputation. I would not worry about it.

U Penn is not in the top 10 of EE graduate programs by rank, so you will need to work harder to find a job and prove yourself equal to graduates of the top schools.  Many employers will not actively recruit at schools that aren't at the top.

Considering that ivy leagues are terrible at engineering, UPenn is probably not a very good name. The better universities are cornell and Princeton, and even them have a hard time being taken as a top EE school
