Should we root our phones to install CyanogenMod over stock Android?

    I don't think you need to. Just unlocking bootloader is enough. Because you need a custom recovery to flash the ROM. But all side effects of rooting(voiding warranty, etc) are applicable to unlocking bootloader too. However, it makes no sense to just take risk and not take advantage(becoming root user) of that risk.

Touchwiz is laggy. Before switching to Paranoid Android in Note 2, it took atleast 10 seconds to open up the damn dialer. If you are a touchwiz user, you will know the difference  greatly.

Obsoletely You MUST root your device. Then only you will get SuperUser(SU) permission. If you got that permission only, You can move further steps.

Always root your phone whether you want to install cyanogenmod or not. Personal experience, if you have a rooted phone then you can modify your phone the way you want.
