How to get specific number in XPATH?

How do you get a mobile phone with phone number that has a specific area code? Do you need to buy the phone in a store located in that area code?

  • I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon and wanted to get a 650 area code even though I currently live in SF.  Do I need to travel to a store in the 650 area code to do this or can any Verizon store assign me a 650 area code?

  • Answer:

Any store can assign you a phone number any where they offer service. It may make the process easier if you have a physical address that's in the right area code. (Doesn't have to be your actual address; just an address that will map correctly in their system.)

You can call VZW customer service and request a number in any area code, provided they have service there. There is a charge I believe for the number change. I know about this because I added my nephew (who lives in a different part of the country) to my plan, and had to get him a local number. If you already have a 650 number on ATT, of course you can port that over to VZW. AFAIK numbers are assigned based on the account physical address, so driving to a store down the peninsula won't be a useful move.
