Should we approve internal Pingbacks in WordPress? will they be helpful in SEO? and are the external pingbacks helpful in SEO? I many time wonder linking back to a website (via pingback) which is linking to our site, will that not look like mutual link exchange to the Search Engines?

Ping away. It's a great way to connect with other sites and contributors in your vertical. Also, reciprocal links are not a negative ranking factor. They occur naturally and frequently on the web. They become negative when they are created in bulk as a means of manipulating search results or you are pointing your links to low quality (spam) sites. They are very easy to detect. Most sites have a variety of link-types in their portfolio. Having some quality reciprocal links shouldn't be a concern.

Well said Greg I'd add to encourage you.... this is the web; not the dead end. I can't speak for Google but would they rather promote sites that foster business, promote others, and engage in the discourse online OR those that try to limit their customers to their own experience?

If the pingback offers value to the readers and to the comment chain then I think it is a good thing. If it is purely a syndication link from a scraper site then I would consider removing it because they are just ripping off your content for advertising revenue.
