Where should I install SSL - whole domain or on a subdomain?

I have a wild card SSL certification and an SSL certification specific to one subdomain in the same domain. Is it possible to install these two in the same server?

Answer:

Short answer Yes. How you do it though depends on your server OS and configuration. IF it is Apache you simply edit the conf file to point to the relevant location of the SSL certificate. For Windows you will need separate sites in IIS each with their own SSL certificate assigned. The sites can also share an IP using SNI support. But if you want full support for older browsers then you should try and give each site it's own IP.

Yes, if you have two valid certificates for a domain you can serve either. However note that SPDY uses SSL certificates to identify servers, so there may be a performance benefit to having your site and cdn share an ssl certificate.

Yes, you can install wildcard SSL Certificate for both of your domain and sub domain. But make sure the wildcard Certificate authority must be Comodo, RapidSSL or GeoTrust. They allow SSL installation on multiple servers. But if your wildcard Certificate authority is Symantec or Thawte, they allows SSL installation on single server only.

Yes you can install you both SSL For wildcard and SSL for base domain in single web server.Make sure both SSL certificates are from a valid SSL certificate authority.
