Looking for competitive/comparative research on sites like Edmunds, KBB, and other car/classifieds sites that have great user experience AND are supported by advertising - where the advertising doesn't interfere with the user experience.

This isn't a car site per say, but i have to say the more i use http://www.theverge.com/ the more i like it. Their attention to details (sidebar telling you on any given topic where the particular post lives in the series for example) is unmatched. While some sites focus on pure design (http://fastcodesign.com) and others perhaps features (techcrunch of the worlds) TheVerge has hit the sweetspot. Hope this helps
