What kind of internet marketing activities don't have diminishing returns of traffic?

• I've noticed with things like comment marketing and social bookmarking that there are diminishing returns on your efforts. Take for example, comment marketing on other people's blogs. A fresh comment may get the attention of the owner and the regulars who may end up checking your site. While it's still on the first page of comments people visiting that site may also check your site out. However, eventually your comment is swept away to the third or fourth page diminishing the amount of traffic you receive for that effort. There is such a downpour of data that old content can become a needle in a haystack. What efforts in internet marketing have a longer return on your investment.

This is a common definition of spam. Thankfully, such spam is commonly filtered out now.
