What's the best pet insurance company out there (most bang for your buck)?

• Currently, we use VPI but we haven't been able to claim much from vet visits.  We signed up about 4 years ago.  Perhaps there are new pet insurance companies that have less exclusions?

  There are lots of options out there, and most companies these days cover based on a percentage of your actual vet bill rather than benefit schedules which is what VPI uses. Here's an article explaining this: http://t.co/d6Wue9f I work for Trupanion, so understand that my answer may be biased, but here's how our coverage works: We cover all accidents and illnesses that are not considered pre-existing to your policy coverage. Our only exception is hip dysplasia which is an optional add-on for pets that sign up before they turn 1 year old. It covers 90% of your actual bill for diagnostic testing, treatments, surgeries, and medications (so routine care is not included, but this allows your premium to be lower). We have absolutely no payout limits or caps. You can choose any per-incident deductible from $0 to $1000. The deductible would be met once for each condition for life, so if your pet has a chronic condition for life, you would only have to meet the deductible once for that condition. Other pet insurance options out there offer similar coverage, but may have yearly payout caps, or limits per condition, per lifetime, etc. and usually have more exclusions, such as breed-specific conditions. Be sure to get a copy of the policy and read through the exclusions when researching! Good luck!
