Domain Name Effect on SEO?

Does having a relevant keyword in a domain name help SEO?

  • If yes, does it make a significant difference? If your startup goal is to get momentum quickly & cheaply, and sustain by building a brand name, how would you decide between option (a) enjoy seo benefits by using relevant keyword in domain name and option (b) enjoy branding benefits by using company brand name in domain name?

  • Answer:

Yes, having a relevant keyword in your domain name should help you in SEO.  You may also want use human readable page urls that include meaningful keywords.  An example would be: http://crmcompany.com/productname-saas-crm (this is just a made up example).  The inclusion of SaaS and CRM should help you rank more highly for those terms than if you had not included them in your url.  Hope this helps.

It helps but all that must be supported by the content in-the page

In my experience, yes. If nothing else, keep in mind that any link to your website that uses the URL as the anchor text will have the keyword in it. That said, I can't remember the last time I bought anything from a website with the domain being (objectimshoppingfor).com. I think unbranded, keyword-only domains are corny as hell. But that's just me.

This is a very popular debate going on since last long time. When it comes to selecting a domain name most startups are in a dilemma of whether to choose a keyword rich domain name that will get better rankings on Google or a branded domain name that is more likely to get more visitors to the site and be easier to remember. Personally, I believe that primary keyword in a domain name can certainly increase chances to perform a website very well in search engines. However you should not forget that keyword in domain name is one of the 200 factors of Google algorithm for getting ranked in top of search results. Although you have a keyword in domain name, you need to do a lot of SEO work for enjoying top position that stays long lasting. Regarding your question: Yes, If your startup goal is to get momentum quickly & cheaply then you should go for keyword rich domain since moving forward with brand name as a domain name can cost you thousands dollars to get momentum quickly! Hope this helps!

Yes if a domain name have a relevant keyword then it will help in SEO a lot because it will become search engine friendly and also user friendly which will be very easy to human readable and also help the site to become a top ranking site so if a domain name have relevant keyword it is too good.
