What are technological resources?

What are some resources about the technological background of Google Goggles?

  • Google Goggle just launched for the iPhone finally and I'm interested in the technology it's based on.

  • Answer:

How detailed do you want to know? ;) It is state of the art image recognition which works most probably with so called local visual features (one of the most popular such algorithms is SIFT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scale-invariant_feature_transform). Beyond that you need quite a stack of software in order to achieve scalability. Google's stuff is probably also partly based on technology from Neven Vision, which was acquired in 2006. Hartmut Neven still leads the development of Goggles. If you want similar technology for your onw purpose you could use our API: http://www.kooaba.com/en/developers/query_api

To complete Till's answer, Google also acquired Plink Art in 2010. One of its founders explains their technology here: Disclaimer: I work at Moodstocks (http://www.moodstocks.com/) which also provides object recognition as a service through an API.
