How has AdBlock Plus managed to grow so fast and ultimately stand out among their competition?

• AdBlock Plus was the first Mozilla add-on which hit 100M downloads mark. Given adblocking market's low entry-barriers and ABP's open source model how did they managed to win the competition? Any indirect insights and shares are highly welcomed.
