How to manage android service?

I am launching a local service that would manage the online presence of local businesses such as pizza places, Chinese restaurants, and other fast food. How can I contact these business besides cold calling?

  • I have called a few places with my "pitch" beginning like this. "Hi, may I speak to a manager/the owner? Hi, my name is xx and I am the owner of xx which is a Marketing company based in your town, your state. I was wondering if you were interested in a new service we are launching that would manage your full online presence. By that, I mean we would manage your online reviews such as Yelp, your twitter account, your facebook account, website (including mobile), and search engine optimization." So far I have gotten only cut off with a "No, thank you" or a "We already have somebody doing that." Also when I am calling these businesses I am holding up their phone line. They simply don't have a public email that I can find, and most of them don't have websites either. These are exactly the companies that I am targeting - but how can I get them to hear me out?

  • Answer:

You know what you should try? Direct mailing. When I say that, I don't mean envelopes with address labels printed out. Make a list of 100 small businesses that fit your demographic. Type up a letter draft on word, where you can replace the name of the store, the owner, and the type of business they run. There's a feature in word that allows you to easily generate countless custom letters as long as you feed in the right information. This next step is pretty time consuming, but it's what will make your letter stand out First sign every letter with your name in pen. Then, hand write each and every address on the envelope. Finally, if you can afford it, pay for first class stamps. Basically this long and laborious exercise is for you to stand out amongst all the other physical marketing mail people get. I'm going to disregard any letter with printed labels, second class postage, and any other telltale signs of marketing. But if I get a envelope that is handwritten on the front, a letter that looks customized for me, and a handwritten signature I'm way more likely to at least read it. Also no one puts up resistance while reading a letter. They can do it on their own time, not feel rushed or irritated, and have something to refer back to. But ultimately the burden is on you to provide a compelling message with a service that your potential customers need.

Most restaurant owners belong to a trade association of some sort -- either an industry specific one http://www.restaurant.org/Home or a location-specific one (https://www.facebook.com/sjdowntown).  Join up. Get out there and press the flesh.

If these businesses are local to you then get a flyer printed and just go in and give the owners / managers your 20 second pitch and leave them with the flyer. Follow up in a few days time.

Your message is wrong. :) You are immediately proposing taking over their online identity. That is scary. They need to propose that to you. My pitch is different "What do you do to get more 5-star Yelp reviews today?" and then just listen. "And what else?" "And how is that working out?". Keep them talking. You want to find someone who wishes they could manage their social media better. :) Oh, and don't pitch SEO. Just don't do it. As for where to find them that would be at their places of business. I bike around and talk to people. Places that expect walk-in customers are easy. Others are a challenge. Practice your pitch at various networking events where they are. In San Francisco Bay Area, for example, that would be https://everycircle.com/en/home You want to get to the point where you pitch prompts them to say "tell me more".

SBA's or trade associations are a good solution also reach out to them on their social platforms. If you use Google+ I am sure you'll get noticed...there aren't enough people using it to bury your comment.
