What industry should I pursue as a chemical engineer?

What occupations are available to a civil engineer that wants to transfer into the water and wastewater engineering industry?

  • I am a registered California civil engineer (P.E.) and a geotechnical engineer with 8 years experience.  I plan to pursue a master's degree in environmental engineering and would like to start working in the water/wastewater industry as soon as possible.

  • Answer:

As I seek out for internships this summer, I have come across many companies that are into water and waste water treatment works. They do from design, to construction to operation. So if you do masters in environmental engineering, you should try to figure out whether you would want to work as a design engineer, as a construction engineer, as a project engineer or as a operation and maintenance engineer. Companies that I know of, in Mid-west, are Theineman, Whiting-Turner, Bowen, etc. All these companies, and many more are into this business. Most of them have positions in Water and Waste Water departments, so you have a good chance. Cheers!
