Is it possible to access the Mac address book API from pure Java?

How does Quora assign an email address to my friend's Facebook profile under "Invite People to Join Quora"?

  • I presume the Facebook API does not provide access to friends' email addresses. I imported my gmail address book, but curious as to how Quora is able to identify which emails belong to which profiles. Would Quora have access to the emails had I not imported my address book?

    My guess is that quora is matching email names with facebook ones to link emails and fb account. It's a bit risky but it works because a lot of people are using their real names on both fb and emails

You can use the Facebook API to get hashes of the email addresses of a user's friends. If you can obtained the email addresses of a user's friends in another way (i.e. from their address book) then it's relatively trivial to rehash the email addresses and compare them with the hashes you get from Facebook.
