How can I hide how many friends I have on facebook?

How many of your friends on Facebook do you look forward to seeing online and how many do you avoid and hide from?

• I asked this question because sometimes I see people with over a thousand friends of facebook and it got me wondering whether someone would be pleased to see *all* these people online? Are they genuinely friends with 1K+ people?

  I purged my Facebook fried list a little over a year ago. I deleted or in friended everyone I didn't feel like I really knew or wanted to keep up with. And since them, I have new very selective about who I add. So I am happy to interact with any of my Facebook friends. There are a few who like to have long conversations on FB or who like to post far too many things about their life: what they are, that they woke up, that it is gym day. But I have also learned how to cut those long conversations short or make them pick up a phone and mite those friends that post stuff I am not interested in so it doesn't show up on my timeline. Facebook can be a real mess. But it can also still be used as a great way to stay in touch with friends and family; the ones you are in close contact with an interact with daily/weekly as well as those you just see or speak with every few months or once a year. You just have to learn to use the tools and features on their site to do it. Oh, and not be afraid to delete some people. Just because someone went to the same high school as you or knows someone you also know, does not mean you have to be their friend on Facebook.
