What tools are good for developing websites targeting Japanese non-smartphones?

  • Web-enabled, but non-smartphones are prevalent in Japan but hardly ever seen in the US. As a US developer trying to target this segment of users, what tools and resources have you found helpful in testing/emulating this environment and guiding you as to what works and what doesn't?

Docomo i-mode simulator II http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/service/imode/make/content/browser/html/tool2/ For quick check, you may use Goo's Ketai Site Viewer http://emu.mobile.goo.ne.jp/emu/emu.php and Firefox addon FireMobileSimulator http://firemobilesimulator.org/ Unfortunately, all are available in Japanese. And many of those ketai sites are accessible only from the carriers' network. With those tools, you can only see very few cellphone websites which are opened to the internet. And if you are doing serious business, you need to test it on the real handsets. Huge company keep over 100 different handsets and test department. There are also companies to run those test for customer developers.
