Compare/contrast china and the united states?

We hear often that China has a horrible Human Rights record. What can you not do in the United States that you can do in China?

  • I do not hold the United States up as perfection in human rights, it's just that I live here.  Clearly the United States will not tolerate Edward Snowden levels of criticisms, but I feel fairly safe asking this question.  Could you ask it in China?

  • Answer:

I can criticize the government and not get arrested, for starters.

In China you Don't have to pay property taxes. Can make your kids wear bottom-less pants. (Or is this called breach-less pants?) Can engage in vigilante justice Can look up people in Flesh Search Engine and harass them Can conduct anti-Japanese riot with impunity Criticize all you want about Americans Can gawk at black people Tell someone to their face that they are fat, in a dismissive, judgmental manner. All of these would be unthinkable in US.
