I have got a major examination soon. I have studied hard throughout the year. Most students in my school will only start studying from June. Yet, I think that i am not studying enough. Why is am I thinking like that? And I am planning to sleep only 3 hours per day. Is this wise?

Answer:
Many people associate confidence with ability (see http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2013/08/why_do_so_many_incompetent_men.html). You probably perceive your peers as being more ready, because they are confident enough to wait until the last minute to study, while you saw the need to spend substantially more time. There may be some basis in that (perhaps they had more previous training in the field?), but if you're still stressed about it, and it's not because you've struggled all year, it's probably a mental heuristic gone awry. Regarding the sleep, no - that is not a good idea. Sleep is very important for absorbing information, and for effective thought processes. You should study and sleep (you may even find it effective to stagger naps throughout the day, following intense periods of study). If you feel like you need more time to study, it might because you aren't getting enough sleep to study effectively.

You are in the best (and only?) position to judge on how comfortable you feel with the material you must learn and master. Is it wise to sleep just 3h a night. I can answer that part straightforwardly: NO. Well, maybe some people can deal with so little sleep. I certainly can't. I would never have done it for myself. Not sure how you can think straight with so little sleep! You need more sleep than that. In an exam, I closed my eyes to think about the answer and fell asleep. I don't know how long I slept for, but I did not finish the entire exam so it damaged my grade. It would be tragic after all this preparation you failed due to lack of sleep.

DO NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT YOU EXAM. I think you felt that you have not studied enough because you are not confident yourself 1.you need to be relax. you have already studied hard through a year. 2.make a plan. review your major and what you have already studied, find what you don`t learn very well 3.maybe you are not the smartest, but you can do you best and not reggret. i believe you can get a good result in your exam!
