Can I domain map without wordpress?

How do you set up dedicated IP addresses for each blog on a WordPress network?

  • When you set up a set of websites/blogs using WordPress's Create A Network (http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network) settings you are able to "map" unique domain names to each network blog as you wish using a domain mapping plugin listed in the link above, the question is once you have mapped domain names to it, each of them have the same IP address so is there a way to have unique IP addresses for each site in the network?

  • Answer:

Yes, but the work involved is usually not worth any benefit. The IPs still need to be on the same server and you need to be able to tell Apache in the vhosts section that each IP goes to the same folder. If youre doing ti for SEO reasons, yes Google can tell tey are all hosted on the same IP. They can tell if you have separate installs on one IP as well, with 400 others.  The only thing they care about is if you are linking hundreds or thousands of times between those sites.
