Answer:
Oh lad, you just entered in second year! Chillax Ok now serious answer. Benefits of competitive programming: I am not saying that if you are solving problems, brainstorming, it will lend you a dream job ( High salary pay ) . But it is definitely an added advantage. Difference between a person who is not doing it and not doing is that about the perspective. If you are doing it, it changes your whole perspective about solving and tackling problems. Interview questions, puzzles asked in big companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Directi are nowadays focussing more on algorithmic problems. And how about you had encountered it earlier ? I know people who got into big companies or dream jobs without doing competitive programming. Some disadvantages ( very few ): Oh, trust me you will be addicted. ( But its a good addiction, no harm ) Focus not only on that, make some open source projects, make websites, make mobile applications. Do crawling. Talking about your level of programming, you said you are amateur. If you code code code, you will evolve, you will feel confident, you will type faster (:P). But being on top of the world with so many great programmers is difficult this days. Knowing basic concepts of OOP, data structures and algorithms, Operaring system is enough for getting a job. Lastly, do what you like. You will get the job if you are a good programmer, you don't need to do good in Competitive programming. Just code. Enjoy your Engineering :) Hope this helps :)

The first thing you need to understand is that you need to maintain a certain cumulative pointer in these two years and not have any backlogs before the companies arrive on campus for placements... Your seniors can help you decide what your target pointer should be for the kind of companies that you want to apply to... Second, NSIT allows you to have up to 4 job offers and the number and kind of companies that visit your college are awesome... This is a big advantage and getting a job shouldn't be a problem... Third, try and decide what you want, if possible, and start preparing for it... Since your friends are already good at programming, they can help you out, so that's an advantage... Don't worry because you have a lot of time on your hands to become one of the best... Relax, decide what you want and go for it... It's really that simple...
