Is it impossible to spread a virus through Mosquito bites?

Why doesn't  HIV/AIDS spread through mosquito bites?

  • HIV virus can survive upto 4 hours outside human body. During bite mosquitos draws blood from human circulatory system and again that blood enters into another life system of mosquito. Such a mosquito with HIV virus in it can potentially transmit the virus to the body which it bites... Its through mosquito bites only Dengue and Malaria spreads in similar way. Asper this then AIDS can be also possibly transmitted in similar way right?

  • Answer:

Strictly speaking, it is not AIDS but HIV that spreads through blood, semen and from a mother to child. Mosquitoes cannot transmit HIV for two reasons. Firstly, when the mosquito bites with its probosis, it draws blood and injects saliva, which contains antiviral factors and immunoglobulins and hence cannot transmit HIV. The blood from one person is not injected into the mosquito's next victim. Secondly, HIV dies in the mosquito's body because the mosquito after sucking the blood digests the blood and doesn't immediately need to feed on another. Therefore, it takes a while to digest this blood and by then, it has also digested all the virus containing cells.
