What is the cheapest and most reliable way to move my stuff from London to Melbourne?

  • Looking for companies that offer the best rate and most reliable (least bad reviews) to move about 11 boxes, about 1 cubic meter / 33 cubic feet of household stuff. Currently the best I have found is sevenseas at £240, who I have used before and had no problems with.

    We moved lock stock and barrel from Leicester UK to Melbourne Australia four years ago. We used Anglo Pacific. They were great - packed everything, transported, shipped, stored, delivered and unpacked a three bedroom house for 5000 pounds. Out of a house full of precious objects and vintage design furniture, one dinner plate broken and they were very apologetic. They do small shipments also. I highly recommend them. I've answered your question because I'm checking out queries and answers due to currently looking for shippers to use for the export of vintage furniture from the UK to Australia - Iike you I was wondering which shippers others have used and which of them are recommended.

I moved from New York to Sydney a year ago so I have more generic advice: 1. Get quotes from several movers 2. Make sure you compare the quotes to see if all the movers are offering the same services 3. If you self-pack, you typically can only get Total Loss insurance -- that means you only get paid if your entire shipment is lost/destroyed 4. Verify whether the quote is for Door to Door service. If it's Door to Port, you will end up paying Terminal Handling Charges (THC), which can be hefty--you'll also have to go to the port to clear your stuff through customs. (Just saw this post is pretty old, but I'll answer anyway in case someone else stumbles on it like me...)
