Does fitrum really work?

What should I do if I don't really enjoy my work?

  • Currently I'm working as an intern at (can't really disclose) and I'm moving onto final year of my college, I don't enjoy everyday of my work, and the part of the project too I'm assigned isn't very interesting (to me) and involves rigorous amount of exploring the already designed code-base & libraries with no documentation and help from colleagues which isn't of much consequence, currently in the 4th week of my internship, if I evaluate myself on what I had thought I would do, i guess whatever I've done till now could be done in just 2 days with proper knowledge of the task and guidance... Is it always this way around corporate cultures or is it just me who is feeling all left out, at the beginning I really wanted to make an impact where I could work on a proper project and enjoy everyday of work, but it turns out things can sometimes really go frustrating (I spent this week debugging exceptions to integrate 2 software features using lib about which apparently no one really seems to have exact idea). What should I do? I still have 4 weeks left for intern and I am trying to be assigned to a new project (the present one will take on forever at current pace without the proper guidance) PS: the company I'm working on is the biggest in its field and very reputed around the world, so its actually a big firm and being an employee (but a teenager too) I really can't disclose it... Edit: This is my first experience in a corporate culture... Update: I really held up to my last project and managed to finish it as well, plus the project has gone into production and my project manager also admitted that she couldn't have a more challenging and technical task for me as I had expected but she also appreciated that I did it completely and also learnt new things, overall her feedback was positive. Sometimes you don't get what you expect but that doesn't mean you should quit on yourself (at the most quit on the job); Tomorrow I have my final presentation on the project that I did, hope everything goes fine... :) The thing is I'm not afraid anymore as to what may happen tomorrow, this is just the beginning.

  • Answer:

I would recommend to stay. Don't give up. You are lucky and many people would take it if given chance. It gives you a heads up of being part of a big corporate. Your resume will stand out from others. So stick to it.

There are few kinds of work in this world that are interesting. Only one piece of advice, do not make decisions only by evaluating whether a job is interesting or not.

Stay where you are. That will be my suggestion because as others point out it is easy to stay back than explaining why you quit in future. You will have an area that you are interested. You could spend some time on that and learn new things in that area. And trying to change to new project at the end of internship will give you the same experience you are going through now as you have only 4 weeks left.Going through what they have done already and doing the assigned job will take more than 4 weeks. So better stick around and try improvising your skills in your area of interest,

Go for higher studies in your area of interest. Many people even after working several years go for higher studies to stay away from work environment and in a hope to get better job afterwards. Be happy and learn more and more to prepare well for your dream job. Good luck. Edit: after reading your update: Corporate culture is more or less the same as you mentioned. Very few will help you if you are stuck with something (depends on company culture and people). I must say, you should keep at it and work hard (more if you are already working hard) and fight at it. Having a completed project in internship will not be the only thing, you should learn and master the technologies you used in those projects.

The kind of experience you are going through is not something new. A lot of us have gone through such experience. Situations like these are common when people join big and fast growing companies. Also, when students join as interns, they are super excited about the job and the company. They have certain dreams and plans. However, a lot of times, the company you are joining won't adhere or work they way you want. My suggestion would be to talk to your project manager and share your concerns. OR figure out a task in the project that is being ignored or getting delayed. See if you can take up that task and try set it into place. Don't get disheartened, this does not happen in all companies and this also is not the last experience you will have. You are an intern so a lot of times company's or team members ignore intern because they think, he/she is anyway gonna leave in a while. Take these things as a learning, be patient. Always remember, the things you will learn here will help shape your career in some way or the other in near future.
