If I have a student visa in one EU country, can I change it to a work visa in another EU country?
-
I'm a Informatics student in Germany and I have taken most of the credits I need and I'm a great Programmer. I am just left with minor courses and thesis I need for graduation. I also have a job offer in another EU country that pays a lot. And I need to take it before graduation to save a life of a family member who is in an urgent need of money to get treated for a disease. Graduating and holding the degree paper doesn't matter to me as much as helping my family before their situation gets critical does. One thing I know is that changing a student visa to work visa is not possible in Germany. But is it possible for me to get a work visa in another country despite my situation?

Answer:
My advice would be to let the company that wants to hire you so badly for good money deal with it. If they're worth their salt, they'll have a lawyer or ten who is familiar with that kind of crap on retainer, and might be able to pull some strings in extreme cases. If they aren't willing or able to assist with your visa, as heartbreaking as it may sound: their promises for exceptional pay are likely best taken with a grain or ten of salt. Smart money would - in that case - be on finishing your education. You'll be in a much better position for haggling about visa and such after you do...

You can't automagically "change" it for a work visa. You can certainly apply for a work visa, in another country or the same, but there is no guarantee your request will or won't be accepted. The only thing the Shengen agreement gives you is the right to freely move in countries in the Shengen area. Individual countries still deliver visas, work permits, etc. according to their own individual rules. Edit: OK I don't know specifically about the Netherlands. But from http://www.iamsterdam.com/en-GB/living/official-matters/permits-and-visas/work-permit if you have a work offer it is your future employer that should apply for a permit. From what is written, officially, they have to prove that they hire you because they couldn't find any EU national as good as you for the position. From my personal experience in other countries, that kind of provision can mean anything and nothing ; whether or not you will get a visa will likely depend on both your personal situation some inner policies and directives the NL immigration administration received from their political overseers. Also, if the pay is really good have a look at http://www.iamsterdam.com/en-GB/living/official-matters/highly-skilled-migrants. In any way, as I was writing, there is no reason why having a german study visa would play against you or bar you from anything anywhere else in Europe. I am no lawyer, but I would go as far as saying that such a policy would be considered unfair discrimination. Your request will probably be considered the same as the one from any national from your country with your history and qualification. Good luck to you ! I can't do much but I hate all those stupid rules that make people's life miserable because they are born at what some other people consider the wrong place.

No, As Alexandre says, the visa issued by one EU Country does not entitle you to (even) the same visa let alone a different visa in another Each country has their own rules for what qualifies you to have a visa in their country and you lack of degree, regardless of how many credits you have will count against you Your prospective employer will need to apply for the visa from the local Employment Agency for you
