What is quality education?

What steps should be taken to improve the quality of faculty of higher education in India?

• Most higher education institutes in India lack high quality faculty. what can be done to improve this?

  I graduated from NITK last year which is ranked Top 15 in the country. I will put  my frank comments here. In case you happen to teach me, please take this as my opinion on what can be done to improve the education. 1. Faculty Recruitment: I strongly feel reservation should not be mixed with the faculty recruitment. After all, they are going to educate the future generation and hence their learning should not be compromised with somewhere who is not competent to teach them. 2. More emphasis on Research: The role of the faculties at most places is restricted to only teaching. This role needs to be expanded to carry out research activities at the University and provide an opportunity for the students to involve in such research activity. This will lead to a formation of research group which is common in many of the foreign universities abroad. 3. Should know how to teach: Teachers should not be confused with faculties. Teacher is someone who knows how to teach to a class and should know how to handle people. He provides lucid explanation so that he cater everyone in the class of varied reception levels. 4.Universities should help the faculties in starting their own company: Yes, Startups is what i am talking about. Quite a few professors have started their own company at GaTech. Several Professors are board members of many companies outside. This gives the faculty some industry exposure and helps them to understand how an industry work and not restricting them to Academia. This may potentially attract people holding research scientist position in different companies.
