Would it be a good move to leave a decently paying software development job to become an assistant professor at NIT?
-
I did my B.Tech in CS from one of the top NITs and got placed in a company, where people aspire to get a job, with a very good salary package. But after working for two years there, I started feeling like I am not fit for a corporate job. And then I started thinking about things like - purpose of life(whether it has a purpose or not) and other such things. Also I had no real interest in computer science from beginning, I actually wanted to study Physics after high school but considering economic conditions of my family, I took up CS. But now since I have found out that I am a complete misfit in corporate culture and since I have no particular interest in computer science, I am no fan of creating/working for a start up. When I was going through this frustrating phase, one of my teachers in college suggested me to do M.Tech and take up teaching as a career. I just want your thoughts on this. Would it really be a good move?

Answer:
Well, you said you have no interest in computer science. To be considered as a permanent faculty in a govt. institute like any NIT, you need to do M. Tech. That means another two years of studying computer science. Plus in the academitia, if you want to grow, you need a Phd. If you don't like the subject, its going to be very painful

If you are B. Tech - NO - better opportunities in the industry If you are Ph. D. - maybe you can consider entering the world of academia if you prefer a tranquil lifestyle

If you don't like your job go and do something that you like. Academia is not for people who don't like their subjects. You will not have the motivation and perform badly and will be in a worser position than you are in already.

Teaching is not a profession , it is a passionate job. If you are passionate about teaching then its OK . Otherwise I will recommended you as a software engineer.

If your passion says so..then go for it...
