If I buy one of these cheap "APad" style 7'' Android tablets, can I install my own apps on it?
-
I'm starting to see some very cheap, 7'', Android tablets appearing. They're probably not the same quality as a Streak, but they're in my price-range ;-) I'm mainly looking to a) learn Android development, and b) have a couple of specific work apps. that I intend to write. So do these cheap Android tablets support that? Can I plug them into my laptop and run the Android SDK against them? Or are they locked in some way?

Answer:
I can't recommend these. There is little to installed userbase and the reliability is terrible. I would suggest going with the new Nexus 7 when it comes out. Being a reference device its perfect for being able to test a wide range of code due to its specs and its only $200.00. Also, if your apps have any location based functionality these off brand models usually only have wifi-based GPS and not a built in chip.

I can't speak for all the tablets out there, but mine (using the Rockchip chipset) didn't need drivers in both Windows and Linux. No locking. Good to check sites like Slatedroid for recommendations on which device to get. For a) Yes this is a good choice for Android development, since they run almost-unmodified Android from the Android Open Source Project, but b) Maybe not the best platform for work apps since they are not reliable, and not representative of a "branded" Android device. They also lack GPS and telephony.

yes you can! i'm using 3 of those e-pad, Super-pad and one 7'' tablet. all works best for new app testing! only one problem with 7'' is it doesn't support motion sensor n rotate screen so you may find this details! Also these all have very cheap materials(H/W) so crashes eventually might disturb you a lot. Google it which one you are taking as Migual Paraz said see on Slatedroid! Best Luck :)
