Switching from BlackBerry QWERTY, is the iPhone keyboard better than the Android one?
-
This is a follow-up question to . I'm on a BlackBerry with QWERTY keyboard, deliberating over iPhone vs. Android at the moment. I do a lot of email and SMS, so the keyboard speed/ease of use is a deal-breaker for me. In Canada, we don't have Android 2.0 yet, so I've only been able to test-drive the keyboard on Android 1.5, which I found much more difficult and cumbersome than the iPhone keyboard (LG Eve and the Sony X10 were tested, one of which is larger in surface area than the iPhone and the other being smaller). Anyone have Android say on a Nexus One that has found the keyboard to be better than iPhone's? Are there apps to install better keyboard software on Android phones?

Answer:
Yes. The stock Android one is almost always called out as being noticeably poorer than the iPhone one.

It depends from the phone. And especially from the features of the monitor.

Android 2.1 with Swype enabled is superior to the iPhone keyboard. Indeed, ANY keyboard with Swype enabled and capactive touch will be superior. Android 2.3 stock Keyboard is at least on par with, if not superior to the iPhone Keyboard. Although again, if you have Swype, I can't see how any stock "tap" keyboard will be superior.

I love iPhone, I use my iPhone 100x more than my nexus one. But I like the multichoice word completion of android better. iPhone has a better physical touch sensor than nexus, but I like the android kbd software better.

You can find Android devices with Blackberry style keyboards, e.g. The Motorola Droid Pro. http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-DROID-PRO-US-EN

If the Android phone has Swype keyboard, then nope, otherwise the iPhone Keyboard is better than the stock android keyboard. However that seems to change with whatever I have seen of Gingerbread keyboard.

The iPhone has great predictive text, not just suggesting a word with autocorrect, but knowing which key you meant to hit

I am not sure about Canada , but I found the Nokia Lumia phones to be the best of the lot in terms of keyboard , display etc. I tried them out recently and almost bought them , only read in reviews that they had initial problems with power getting drained faster. Am still reading up on that. But keyboard , display , camera all are better than iPhone and Android as well. Windows OS is also pretty good.

SwiftKey is another alternative keyboard app for Android that is impressive, but agree with above...stock Android keyboard is not as good as iPhone.
