Why is it so hard trying to "continue" a pleasent dream after we woke up? At the same time why it is so hard to stop/change the nightmare?
-
If you're dreaming something good, if you suddenly wake up, it is very hard to close your eyes and try to continue that dream. But if you have a nightmare and you wake up in the midle of the night, even if you stay awake for a few minutes, it's very hard to change the subject to another dream.

Answer:
The good dream is hard to continue because upon waking, the "fantasy vs. reality filters" in your brain have been activated, and you realize that your experience was just a dream. The nightmare is different in that your "threat sensors" are also activated and they can tend to override your "fantasy vs. reality filters".
