When's the best time to buy a brand new car?

Would you buy a brand new car for free, with the caveat that you have to listen to advertisement via the car's radio, every time you start the engine and until you switch it off, for the rest of the life of the car?

  • If the ad revenue comes along for 15 yrs (estimated of life of a car), that should more than cover the MSRP. I have of course not discounted for the headache that a driver will endure. Update: Let me up the ante a little bit. What if the car is valued at 100K+, would you consider? I am trying to understand at what price point are we willing to put ourselves through certain misery (for majority of us) to have something like a Maserati or a S class.

    Not in this lifetime. But then, I don't own a television.  I don't text.  I don't tweet.  I don't listen to broadcast radio. I don't subscribe to Sirius... I forget what it's called. I'm not on Facebook. I'm not on LinkedIn. If I get more than 10 business-related emails in a day I assume I am failing to communicate clearly. I work at stripping away distractions, intrusions and just plain noise. Some people call me a Luddite. A calm, quiet and private life is a luxury I am grateful to afford.

The American bias against advertising is off-base.   My parents lived in England in the early 1960s. At that time, advertising was heavily restricted.   Heaven you say?   No.  There were many products which my parents only discovered when they returned to the U.S. and saw the ads.   Many of the same products had been available in England.  But no one knew.  The companies were restricted from "conjuring demand that wasn't there naturally."   Advertising is good.  Not bad. Ads are useful.  And with the right mindset, they are fun!   Get the car.
