What are Anesthesiologist's Working Conditions?

Why are working conditions at Facebook so bad?

  • Working conditions in Facebook office are shockingly bad. All people work in open space, tables are very small, environment is very noisy, it's almost impossible to focus. Why Facebook treats people so badly? It was proven before (read "peopleware") that providing good working conditions to employees is economically beneficial for the companies

  • Answer:

Facebook likes the open layout, and most Facebook employees like the open layout. There are many benefits to having employees be closer to their coworkers. People are able to contribute to discussions that they may just be overhearing, people are more involved in upcoming features, etc. Yes, there are times when the crowd gets distracting. That's why Facebook provides headphones. I would frequently just put on headphones with nothing playing when I had to write a big chunk of code and needed to not be distracted. Also, for people who really wanted to never be distracted, Facebook did (and I assume still does) offer rooms for those people. Overall, the benefits outweigh the occasional costs.
