How do I import pictures from my phone?

What is the easiest way to import iPhone pictures into Lightroom and delete them from the phone?

  • It's cumbersome to download photos from my iPhone into Lightroom.  First, I have to import them into Lightroom, and then open up separate software, Image Capture, to delete them in bulk, since neither Lightroom nor the iPhone itself have this capability.  Is there something that makes this a one-step process?  Or am I stuck using iPhoto?

  • Answer:

Upgrade your iPhone to iOS 5 and turn on iCloud support. Install the iCloud app on your PC or Mac Now, when you take any pictures on your iPhone, they will automatically sync to a folder named Photo Stream on your PC.  Just import this folder into Lightroom.  After it's been imported once, you can just right click it in Lightroom in the Library view, and select "Synchronize Folder"

Your real problem is that Lightroom is a non-destructive editor. It doesn't delete the images it imports, regardless of source. Whether from a Compact Flash card, tethered shooting from your DSLR, or importing from a folder containing images, Lightroom is not a file management system and does not delete images it imports. It's not just you. Everyone that uses Lightroom has to deal with file management, space management and deleting originals they no longer need outside of this program. Regardless of what kind of camera they use.
