What are the job opportunities for a person trained with SAP(ABAP)?

  • I want to learn SAP with ABAP as specialization. I am a commerce  graduate and would like to learn it. I am afraid if the SAP is only fit for MBA candidates. Can I get good opportunities, if I learn SAP in a local Computer institute in Hyderabad(India)? Is there any way to learn the same course at Home? Thanks !

  • Answer:

To "learn SAP" is a massive task.  You are smart to set your sights on ABAP, but please remember that there are two versions of the SAP system: 1.  FULL ABAP Stack 2.  DUAL ABAP/JAVA Stack The full ABAP stack systems represent largely the versions prior to ECC 6.0.  There are many companies running these systems worldwide, but your skills may become outdated more quickly. The dual ABAP/JAVA Stack represents the new(er) wave of SAP Products which include XI/PI, Portal and Solution Manager.  Skills that deal with these products will be in demand for a longer time. Regarding schooling from home, the books regarding SAP/ABAP/JAVA/BASIS are uniformly poor in content and structure.  The authors seem to believe that they are being graded by the weight of the tome as opposed to it's general usefulness. Some of the books by SAP Press are very good, and generally short (around 100 pages).  The best way to learn is to get one of these books and find an IDES system that you can pay to access (around $100/mo) so you can train yourself. There is also a program called SAP Tutor that you can load different classes into and review.

Hey , First forget MBA,MCA or any other degree , you want to do sap abap ..right? Just stick to it. Don't be afraid of anything except your failure at the interview(if given a chance)  . Can I get good opportunities ? This cannot be answered as there is a heavy competition for one position so grab it and don't try wasting your time looking at good opportunities. There are two ways you can lean ABAP. Certified partner - Costs 3-4 Lakhs Local institutes - Preferable to get a good hands on. There are 1000 ways to learn at home provided you know how to learn. Practice and leave rest to god. SSK

Not sure about market in India, but I know lots of Indian firms offering off-shore services and ABAP is one area that can be easily off-shored. SAP is not just for MBAs, especially ABAP - which is more a programming language - while business acumen  is important, being an ABAPer is not equivalent to a business analyst. That being said, I really can't comment on the job aspect of your local demand, other than I've seen lots of Indian consulting firms doing great in SAP ABAP consulting.

SAP ABAP for those who have technical background. Your background is commerce, why don't you go for functional. It will be familiar for you whereas in ABAP there is coding. I will suggest you to go for functional except technical.

First thing -> Remove this from mind that SAP is for MBA graduates only. Anyone can learn it who wants.Second thing -> If you are interested in programming, than only go for SAP ABAP. It is complete technical field. But as you said, that you want to specialize in it, so I will assume you have already done some homework regarding it.Now coming to your question of learning it, you can learn it at home but you will have to get SAP system access to practice. Although, I would suggest you to learn from local institutes in Hyderabad. Ameerpet is good area and lots of institutes offer courses there. It will cost you less and you will practice under already trained professional. So, you will learn in a gradual manner. Also, I would suggest you to go for some technical degree like MCA, as IT companies prefer candidates with technical qualification.Just piece of advice from me: Since you are commerce graduate, you can also go for SAP FICO functional training, as it demands some accounting knowledge which I guess you will be having. It will be better and more rewarding in future. All the best.

Hey first of all congratulation for taking a good decision to be part of SAP .Being from commerce background you should opt for FI module of SAP. SAP FI module as the term suggests deals in managing financial transactions within enterprises. This financial accounting module helps employees to manage data involved in any financial and business transactions in a unified system. The SAP FI module is very flexible and is functions well in any type of economic situation. Be it a smaller organization or a larger organization, SAP implementation helps in consolidating data for diverse business transactions and legal requirements. Financial Accounting module helps one to get real-time financial position of an enterprise in the market. SAP FI incorporates with other SAP modules such as SAP SD, SAP MM, SAP PP, Payroll and more for better work results.I will not suggest you to do SAP-ABAP as it involves coding which will be comparatively tougher than SAP-FI and one more secret you will have more growth down the line as a functional (SAP-FI) rather being a programmer(SAP-ABAP).Now you have decided to be part of IT specially SAP then it doesn't matter from which background you are from.I know a person who is Team Lead in one of MNC's though he has done http://B.scSC with specialization in chemistry . And once you are in SAP just work hard for atleast 2–3 hrs then you will not ask about salary more because SAP has build his market value through strong business plan and ultimate customer satisfaction , which in turn proves rewarding to persons specialized in SAP irrespective of its modules.Sorry for long answer but hope it will guide you.

Hey friend. First of all, it is not true that SAP is suitable for MBA candidates only. A person trained in SAP is a good resource for many organizations in the IT field. SAP now offers a 3-tier qualification structure that offers a lucrative career as SAP Certified Master, Certified professionals and Certified Associates. Nowadays, many SAP training centers offer online training to those who wish to learn the program at home.

SAP is one of the highest paid job field. There has been a great demand for a certified SAP consultant. SAP is data processing tool which builds enterprise software for industrial operation. There are many online and offline course providers in the market, Google it.
