How do I get Google Adsense to post ads related to my site?

What tips can you share to improve Adsense ad relevance on a page?

  • I've noticed that particular ads seem to follow me from site to site.  Sometimes this makes sense, but other times, if I'm searching for a particular item, I'd much rather see an ad related to the item I'm searching for. For example, if you spend an hour researching LASIK on Google and then on several websites, you're likely to see LASIK ads in AdSense for a while after.  However, if later that day you find yourself looking for computer peripherals on another site, instead of seeing ads for peripherals, you're still likely to see ads for LASIK. As a site publisher, how can you "help" Google to serve more relevant ads to the actual content on the site?

  • Answer:

I think as long as the Interest-based type of ads is enabled in your AdSense account, Google will always serve ads targeted to a particular site visitor. If you're an AdSense publishers and you want Google to just serve ads related to your site contents, perhaps you can just block Interest-based ads and allow just purely Contextual ads. This, however, might have a negative impact in your overall revenue particularly when Interest-based ads are bidding higher for placement in your site. But you can do an experiment for this and see if it works for you overall.
