What is the most effective way to set an alarm clock?
-
I am using the standard iphone alarms. By most effective, I'm asking, how many minutes before I wake up should I have my first alarm set and how should I set the gaps between following alarms. Not sure about you guys but I'm not the type of person to wake up after the first alarm, more like 5; big fan of the snooze button. Currently, I have my my first alarm set 1 hour before I need to wake up and for some reason, I have the first few alarms close together and as it comes time to wake up, the margin expands. I now think it's better to have the first alarms spaced out and as it comes time to wake up, speed them up. Seems less painful. What do you guys think? Do you wake up after 1 alarm or are you a snoozer?

Answer:
Get a radio with alarm function (some start with low volume that then increases) Set it 10 min. before you actually need to get up Wake up Listen to the radio for 10 min (or until you hear the horoscope or traffic report) Get up

I do not have an iPhone but my regular Samsung mobile's alarm (with a snooze feature) is enough to wake me up early everyday. I recently joined gym hence I have to be up at least at 5:30 am so that I make it back home by 7:00 am. I know the difficulty of having to wake up early when you are so not a morning person. I keep 2 alarms, one at 5:00 am and another at 5:30 am. The snooze is at 10 minute interval. I get up at 5:00 and hit snooze. My mind registers that I have another 30 minutes of disturbed sleep. So next 2 times I wake up is at 5:10 and 5:20 to hit snooze again. Finally at 5:30 the next alarm rings and I HAVE to get up now. This system is working for me since last 2 weeks. Another important thing is to get that 8 hours of blissful sleep. Sleep is an absolute necessity unless you are ready to be all cranky next day.

Disclaimer: This is what I do, don't know whether it will help you or not, but technically it should. You need to set three alarms and usual snooze time of 5 mins , Lets say you want to get up at 6 AM First Alarm at 5.45 AM Second at 5.53 AM And last at 5.59 AM (for safety). so this would be the chain 1) 5.45a 5.50a 5.55a 6.00a 2) 5.53a 5.58a 3) 5.59a So on first ring you will sleep for 5 mins, on second u'll sleep for 3 mins and then 2 mins and most probably by 5.55 am you are on, if not we have fallback on 5.58, 5.59, 6.0 definitely you'll be on. It works for me!!!

I can wake up after 1 alarm, but I find that if I'm determined to sleep through 10 alarms, I will... Drinking a lot of water before bed helps me wake up (because I will need to run to the bathroom as soon as I start to wake up)... This will probably not work if you're the kind that wakes up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom though. Waking up is always harder for me if I mess up my rhythm... Having a somewhat fixed bedtime and rising time may make it easier to avoid snoozing (multiple times), since your body will (may?) help you out. When I do have multiple alarms, I set 3-5 alarms (depending on how tired I was the night before), 15 minutes apart. I have a talent for turning the alarm off instead of snoozing, and 15 minutes is just enough time for me to fall asleep such that each subsequent awakening is more painful and frustrating, and I give up and get out of bed.

A few tips on how to wake up on time early in the morning:- just before you sleep, think of the time you want to actually get up at. try avoiding phone/television at least an hour before you sleep. keep your phone at a place where you'll have to get up to shut it. as soon as you're out of bed, start brushing and splash your face with cold water. purchase an alarm clock that jumps around when you try to shut it. I read about one such clock a few years back. Try finding it on google. If it's extremely important to get up and you're pissed at being not able to.. ask someone to splash water on you in the morning! :-P good luck!

Okay, I know I have to go anon for this but this one really works for me. Set an alarm for just when you wanna wake up. Remember to put it on vibration mode. Wear a good fitting underwear Simply rest your phone inside your underwear, near your genitals (yes, you read it right) When it vibrates, it will give either give you a feeling of shock or a pleasant feeling. Either way, you will be able to wake up as soon as it goes on. You cannot ignore if something is vibrating close to your genitals. Congrats. You don't need the snooze button anymore. PS: I understand your dearly beloved iPhone doesn't deserve to stay in that kinda environment. So, you can use a cheap phone with a vibration feature.

Was a snoozer before but that made me lazy all day, had a bad habit of sleeping late and i couldn't wake up in the first alarm no matter how hadd i tried unless i assigned some serious morning task for myself, after which i kept resisting myself from sleeping in day time and slept early peacefully, i woke up the next day early and now i have a good routine but it isn't hard to deviate from this routine, further if you get bored of waking up early automatically, set some serious tasks for yourself at late night, Postscript:- one time alarm is more efficient (atleast for me it is)
