How did you handle your most challenging experience in your previous job?

I am an introvert. I hold a good job and am quite good at the job. But in my experience, many people especially managers keep pushing me to change. How do I handle this situation?

  • My communication and presentation skills are good. I make friends at the workplace and hang out with them often. But there is always a push and advice saying 'you should be more outgoing' which I find very irritating. Specific examples - Asking me (forcing) to act out an impromptu sequence (I am not creative and dont like being the centre of attraction) , dragging me in the middle of a dance floor, make me organise some games which I hate and hinting that you have to be more extroverted. All these are no way related to my job of an analyst - working with data and deriving good insights. How do I tell everyone that I am happy the way I am and like myself very much.

  • Answer:

Don't worry about these things focus on what you are good at and keep doing that. With time people will start knowing you better and it will make it easier for you to say polite "no" to things that make you uncomfortable. But I think a step on a dance floor, once in a while, shouldn't be problem right? Why not practise some simple movement and be ready in case. Jokes apart, if you are really not into this stuff, get yourselves busy with some back ground activity - organising things, coordinating,http://etc.so that you have a good excuse to miss the limelight.
