Would Hector Berlioz not have come across any of JS Bach's compositions?
-
By this I infer, can you point out any hints in his music which are Bach-like?
-
Answer:
Since Bach is well known for his imitative counterpoint - meaning one form that he obsesses over (think of Fugue in D minor) - and one of Berlioz's claim to fame is the formulation of the Idée fixe (think of The First Movement of the Fantastic Symphony), you could say that there is a little - minimally because of the terms of required execution - something Bach-esque in Berlioz pieces.
