Why do BlackBerry batteries run down so quickly?

My blackberry battery only has about twenty hours battery life with an average amount of usage, does anyone know why this is?

I would look for any application pulling data on a schedule like a Twitter client or Google Sync. The main drains to your handset are the screen and the various data connections (GSM, EDGE, 3G, WiFi) but if you have an application checking for updates every 5min it could be an unnecessary drain. Native PIM like BlackBerry mail push the data to the handset which is far more battery efficient. It is also possible you have a faulty battery. If you are in a position to you could get it replaced.

I have experienced the same issue and I have found this site that has a extended battery that helps it last longer then the standard. Also check your background brightness + wi-fi connection as that can drain a battery too. I carry a spare charged just in case.
